Akriti Ghimire
“Aakriti Ghimire is a political and governance analyst who has worked within the legislative and executive systems of Nepal. She has served as the Chief of Staff to Member of Parliament Sumana Shrestha, Personal Undersecretary to the Minister of Education, Science and Technology and was also a member of the Prime Minister Sushila Karki’s secretariat. Recently, she played a pivotal role in digitising Nepal’s voter registration process, enabling an addition of 492,180 voters (59%) post the Gen-Z movement. Aakriti has been the force behind institutionalising Nepal’s first parliamentary calendar, introducing ‘plagiarism’ in educational leadership selection laws, drafting teachers’ transfer directive and overseeing many legislative and legal reforms.
However, Aakriti holds multiple passions and interests, all converging in her love for problem-solving. To make the language of politics and policies accessible, she runs a page called @howtodeshbikas. It is an online platform that aims to shift the policy & political conversation from “what” to “how to.”
She also mentored high-school graduates to build an AI chatbot, ‘bureaucrazy.co‘ that makes bureaucratic information accessible. Bureaucrazy.co became the runner-up at the Kevin Xu Innovation Challenge organized by Rhodes Trust at the University of Oxford. Aakriti has also worked as a journalist at the Kathmandu Post, covering stories on gender and climate change. She earned her BA in Legal Studies from New York University Abu Dhabi and graduated with honors.”
